CRICKETBEMBRIDGE clinched the Sandrock Services League title on Sunday with an exciting win over Young Cavaliers.
Lee Thompson (34 not out) and Karl Lacey (36 not out) dealt with some hostile overs from Jamie Icke and Dan Keller to lay the platform for a big Bembridge score, and Mano Obeyseyere (27 not out) continued the good work with an innings of skill and panache.
Set 154 to win, Cavaliers were given an electric start by their openers, Andy Loudon (35 not out) and Dan Keller (47), and at the half-way point in their innings, they were up with the required asking rate.
But two wickets in one over from Steve Benford shifted the balance in Bembridge’s favour and the champions triumphed by a margin of 18 runs.
West Island rounded off a successful season with a polished performance against Binstead Royals.
Chris Hebberd (36 not out) and Joe Smith (26 not out) helped Binstead post 105-5 after a slow start and the loss of two early wickets.
The target was not enough to seriously test West Island, however, and the latter won by four wickets with two overs to spare.
Graham Gosden made an assured 27 not out and Jason Swain contributed 25 not out to a solid opening partnership.
Arreton won for the third week in succession and finish the season in fourth.
Cask and Crispin started slowly and in trying to increase the tempo, they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Pete Grey top scored with 31. Requiring 105 to win, Arreton lost two quick wickets.
Kevin Cooper steadied the ship with a mature innngs of 32 not out and Sam Read (33 not out) took his team over the finishing line.
Ryde Youth have acquitted themselves well in their first season of indoor cricket and completed the double over Wootton.
Mike Holliday (45) got Wootton off to a good start but the innings stagnated against some accurate bowling once he had retired.
Youth successfully chased down the 105 they required to win.
Carl Dickinson starred with both bat and ball, scoring 25 not out and taking three wickets.
