CRICKET DANNY Briggs could help lead Ventnor’s revival this weekend.

The Ventnor, Hampshire and England spinner, 21, could be made available by his county to play for Ventnor in tomorrow’s home clash at Newclose.

They take on Southern Electric Premier Division leaders South Wilts, from 11.30am.

Briggs has been a key part of the Hampshire Royals Twenty20 line-up but with the quarter-finals not taking place until later this month, Ventnor skipper Ian Hilsum will be hoping that Hampshire will agree to make him available for this important clash.

Jake George, the Ventnor-based Hampshire Academy opener, will definitely play for the Islanders to give the batting line up greater strength.

Hampshire’s Twenty20 all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is likely to be included in the South Wilts line up. The Aussie has caught the eye with some big hitting for the Royals and will be keen to meet the challenge of clearing the Newclose boundaries.

Second-team captain Rob Snell takes a powerful line up to Burridge II in Hampshire League Division 2.

The side are undefeated and are on course for a fifth Hampshire League championship in six seasons.

They won Regional Division 4 in 2007, Division 1 South in 2008, and have subsequently lifted the County Division 4 (South) and Division 3 crowns.

Ventnor were promoted as the fourth placed County 2 club last season, but are set to recapture some silverware this time around.
