One of the most controversial figures in British history, Oliver Cromwell, is the subject of a new display at the Museum of London.

To mark the 400th anniversary of his birth, Cromwell: Warts And All offers another look at this complex man and presents an extraordinary array of objects from the museum's extensive Cromwell collection.

Also included in the exhibition is a silk vest reputedly worn by Charles I as he put his head on the executioner's block.

As the debate on Cromwell's character and motives continues among historians, this is a chance to have a closer look at this most enigmatic figure.

The Museum of London is at London Wall, between underground stations Barbican and St Paul's. Telephone 0171 600 3699 for more information.
