SUNDAY was a groundbreaker for Ventnor Cricket Club after they fielded their first all-girls’ team in a competitive match.
In an IW County Press Under-11s League match, all the members of Ventnor Gold were girls, as they took on Ryde.
Ventnor batted first and in their 16 overs, although there were problems scoring, only three wickets were lost.
Despite facing faster bowling than ever before, the girls batted the best they could and did not shy away from the attack.
The Ventnor girls bowled well with only 11 wides, and with excellent ground fielding and throwing, they continued to show improvement in both their knowledge of the game and their confidence.
The club congratulated the squad — Emmeline Breach, Katie Lucas, Jess Lucas, Lauren Lucas, Emily Clow, Summer Stride, Leah Stride and Ellie Atkey — and thanked Ryde for the serious but sporting way they played the game.
