THREE batsmen are in the early running for the IW County Press cricket awards.

Newport’s Harry Dye, Ventnor’s overseas star Alex Glendenning and Shanklin’s Mark Ringer have all been racking up the runs in the opening weeks and each have five points in the race for the batting prize. In hot pursuit are Ryde Cavaliers’ Chris Higgins, and Northwood skipper Adam Birch.

In the bowling awards, Bembridge’s Liam Roberts is the runaway leader with a whopping ten points, having taken 6-12 on May 28, and more recently 8-17 against Whitecroft. Second so far is Newport’s Ash Brett, with six points, with Chris Higgins and Northwood’s Ashley Goldsmith tied for third with five points each.

Ventnor’s Ben Woodhouse is already in double figures for the wicketkeeping prize, having accrued 11 points so far. Robin Moore, from Shanklin, is second with six points, with Wootton’s Mike Holliday third with five.
