Cup final spot for Bembridge

Friday, February 3, 2012

INDOOR CRICKETBEMBRIDGE put their league disappointments behind them to book their place in the final of the Sandrock Services Cup.

The defeated Arreton by 54 runs last weekend, having put together an impressive 154-4, thanks to unbeaten knocks of 33 for Lee Thompson and 36 for Dan Macarthur.

In reply, Arreton could not make the run rate. Gary Cooper played well for his 33 and Sam Read hit some fine shots in the latter stages, but the target ultimately proved too stiff and Bembridge prevailed.

In the other semi-final, things were far closer between Freshwater and Cask and Crispin.

Freshwater posted a respectable 133-4, thanks largely to Graham Gosden (44) and a typically aggressive 28 not out by Tom Henderson.

Crispin were given their customary good start by Owain Hooper (34 not out) and Chris Ash, and Toby Corbin played beautifully for his 27, but a flurry of wickets kept Freshwater in the game and it was left to Hooper to hit the winning runs off the penultimate ball of the match.

The final of the plate will be between Young Cavaliers and Ryde CC Colts. In the semi-finals, Cavaliers defeated Binstead Royals by six wickets and Ryde CC Youth beat Wootton by two wickets.
