Bexley's highly talented youngsters gathered in droves at Erith Sports Centre for the Whitehouse-sponsored Junior Sports Awards presentation night.

The event is designed to acknowledge the sporting achievements of the borough best and the winner of the Most promising sports-person of the Year' was seven-year-old Tom Bayliss.

He first made made headline news in the News Shopper last July when we reported exclusively about his golfing skills.

At that stage Thomas had just won the regional Wee Wonders tournament and he went onto win the Natinal final when beating the scores set by many children two years older than him.

Thomas is also a classy footballer with Phoenix Junior FC, and attends a development centre run by Wimbledon and he hopes to reach join their highly acclaimed academy when he is nine. Meanwhile, diver Gary O'Neill won the Alf Charlton Trophy for the most outstanding achievement during the London Heathrow Games having won medals in each of the six years he has competed.

Gary now travels to Southampton each weekend to further his chances of making it to the very top.
