CRICKET YOUNG Cavaliers were crowned champions of the Sandrock Services League last weekend — despite losing their final game to Ryde CC Youth.
The successful defence of their title has owed much to Andy Loudon, not only for the weight of runs he scored, but also for the way in which he marshalled his team. And in Harry Bradley, they possessed the best bowler in the league; throughout the season Harry has bowled with pace and admirable control, and has never been easy to score off.
A talented Ryde Colts team finish second and Bembridge, after an indifferent start to the season, will be satisfied with third spot. Newport Ale House produced some strong performances, but their challenge was undermined by a lack of consistency, and they finish fourth.
Binstead Royals failed to win a game and occupy bottom place, but always played with great spirit and determination.

Champions The Fighting Cocks get the new campaign under way at 6pm against Watson’s Warriors, before Higgins’ Hurricanes take on Lord Gaveston VI — the new name for Morris Majors — at 7pm.
