CHAMPIONS elect Watson’s Warriors won a dramatic match against Higgins Hurricanes in the penultimate weekend of the Harwoods Renault Over-45 Indoor League last weekend.
Warriors had struggled to 88-5 off 11 overs when Kevin Winchcombe (68no) hit 31 off the last over to propel the score to 119 and respectability.
Hurricanes’ chase was stalling with Les Cupis taking 3-39, and they needed 25 off the last two overs.
Simon Wratten hit an impressive 46 before falling with six balls to spare but he left his side needing six to win off five balls.
Mick Bartlett hit a four to bring the scores to just one, only to be out to a stunning one-handed catch by Cupis to win it, by the narrowest of margins.
Lord Gaveston posted 111-5, with Steve Lewis (27), top scoring against Fighting Cocks, who made the target with three balls to go. Trevor Mew and Mark Ringer both made 28.
In the final game, Andy White (37 not out) led Bandits to their best score of the season, 128-5, Rob Cooney and Pete Holdcroft both taking two wickets. Hunters’ reply was rescued by Mark West (49 not out) and Rob Cooney (35 not out) who took the score from 84-4 with only four overs left, to victory, finishing on 129-4.
