CRICKET

IW CRICKETERS have been at the forefront of the game this week.

Former Ventnor bowler Chris Russell, 23, made his first-class county debut and took six wickets, including a first-innings haul of 4-43, for Worcestershire against Warwickshire in Division 1 of the County Championship, a match they lost by seven wickets.

On Wednesday, Ventnor and MCC Young Cricketers batsman Adam Hose was named as 12th man for England in their test against South Africa at Lord’s, starting today (Friday.)

Meanwhile, Hampshire’s Danny Briggs and David Griffiths starred in a 107-run win over Glamorgan in the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition. Briggs hit 25, including two sixes, for Hampshire before taking 4-32, with Griffiths taking 1-9.
