FORMER Ventnor player Steven Snell was awarded with life membership at the club’s annual dinner and awards evening at the Eversley Hotel.
Snell, who now plays for Gloucestershire, is the third Ventnor player in recent years to reach the professional level, with Danny Briggs enjoying success at Hampshire, and Chris Russell recently getting a contract with Worcestershire.
President Brian Gardener added his congratulations to the first team, who will play at Newclose in the ECB Southern Electric Premier League, Division 1, next season and to the second team who won Hampshire League Division 4.
Mr Gardener also acknowledged the success of the third team who won promotion to the first division of the Island League and the under-11s, who achieved the league and cup double.
Ventnor also won the Island Webservices Senior Cup, the IWCB outdoor sixes and Twenty20 Cup and the inaugural Newclose Twenty20 competition.
Player of the season awards were presented to Ian Hilsum (first team), Arthur Halsey (second team) and Charlie Turpin (third team). Turpin also won the young clubman of the year award.
The Sunday first team player of the season was David Beven, with the second team prize going to Marcus Toms.
Adam Hose was named young player of the season, with Paul Franklin earning the clubman of the year award. Supporters of the year were Mark and Jacky Turpin, with the Barbara Rogers Memorial Trophy going to James Cheek.
Hat-trick balls were presented to David Beven and Ian Hilsum and the young player of the year award was Matthew Dominguez. Social secretary Ray Herridge, in congratulating John Hilsum on a national ECB/Sky Sports award for his outstanding voluntary service to grass roots cricket over more than 30 years, presented the chairman with a gift to recognise the award.
Certificates to acknowledge the work of club members — ECB Outstanding Services to Cricket Awards — were presented by Mr Gardener to Fiona Newnham, Jim Pidgeon and Graeme Burnett.
