NPOWER lit up finals’ day of the IW County Press Corporate Twenty20 League at Newclose last weekend.

They defeated Lighthouse Medical by eight wickets in the final, captain Murray Jones receiving the trophy from County Press editor Alan Marriott after the game.

nPower, who qualified for finals’ day after finishing second in the league with 17 points, defeated last year’s champions, Moreys, in their semi-final.

Sam Richards’ unbeaten 74 helped nPower reach 135-4 and in doing so, overhaul the 132-8 scored by Moreys (James Morley 53). Three of those eight wickets fell to Sam Morris for 15 runs off two overs, his most notable victim being Morley.

In the other semi-final, Lighthouse Medical, who topped the league table with 18 points, beat HTP.

HTP batted first and scored 125, but Lighthouse Medical made light work of the target, a 100-strong partnership by James Lucy (55) and Donald Gordon (53) doing the real damage.

In the final, Lighthouse were held in check by some tight nPower bowling which limited them to 114-6 (Tom Dye 2-14).

Dye then turned provider with the bat for nPower, hitting an undefeated 56 which turned out to be the backbone of his team’s winning score of 116-2, which they reached with three overs to spare.

At the presentations, Hugh Griffiths, Newclose management committee chairman, thanked the teams, the volunteer scorers and umpires, and the County Press for their continued support.
