ANOTHER week of wet weather ensured only three games in the Harwoods Renault IW League were completed last weekend.
Champions Northwood managed to hold a game at Park Road, where they defeated Ryde Cavaliers with relative ease.
The hosts bowled Cavaliers out for 137, opener Andy Loudon scoring most of the runs with 57. Dan Keller contributed 29.
For Northwood, Ash Goldsmith was the pick of the bowling attack, with 4-23, while cousin Nathan took 2-47 and Harry Collier took 3-16.
In reply, Nick Heelan hit an unbeaten 59, with Gavin Paddock unbeaten on 45 as Northwood surpassed their total with eight wickets in hand.
Ventnor III continued their good form with an 123-run victory over Shanklin.
Opening the batting, Ventnor enjoyed steady scoring throughout their order — Hugh Calloway leading on 65 and Tom Doble adding 39 — to finish on 218-9.
In reply, Adam Wilson ensured Shanklin would not get their teeth into any form of run chase, taking 5-19 from his six overs to blitz the middle and tail end. Mark Ringer top-scored with 26, as Shanklin fell for just 95.
In Division 2, the high winds meant only five boundaries were scored — all from Freshwater — as the West Wight side beat Northwood II by six wickets.
Northwood found runs incredibly hard to come by.
Thanks to economic Freshwater bowling, Northwood were 30-3 off 15 overs. In the end they finished on just 99, Nathan Proud top-scoring with 22.
In reply, Dan Newman produced a very economic spell of 1-13 and five maidens off his eight overs, while Dan Parker also conceded just five runs from his five overs.
But Freshwater were able to get some runs on the board, thanks to Graeme Gosden (29) and P. Jenkins (30), as they finished 100-4.
The match between Whitecroft and Godshill did start, but in the end rain forced its abandonment.
Whitecroft had made 145, with Andy Potts leading on 31. They will have cursed the rain as Godshill had slumped to 27-3 before the weather stopped play.
