CRICKET Ryde, East Cowes, Northwood and Newport have made it through to the semi-finals of the Harwoods Renault Indoor Cup for the second consecutive season.
Ryde won the closest match of the night in last week’s round of games, beating Shanklin by 21 runs.
After a slow start, some quick scoring towards the back of their innings saw them finish on 146-4, Harry Collier top-scoring with 37 not out, with support from Lawrence Tolfrey (32 not out) and Mark Oatley (32).
Shanklin started well in their chase, hitting 50 from the first three overs, with openers James Lucy (37) and Jack Winterbottom (28) both retiring. However, a superb spell of 3-6 from Stuart Robertson helped pull the game back in Ryde's favour and Shanklin were eventually bowled out for 125.
Ryde’s opponents in the final four will be Northwood, after they beat Ryde II. Some superb fielding from Northwood led to four early run outs and Ryde II were unable to recover, Northwood taking just 6.3 overs to bowl their opponents out for 55, despite 21 from Jadon Buckeridge.
In reply, Northwood took 7.5 overs to reach the target, without losing a wicket, Gavin Paddock hitting 22 not out.
East Cowes recorded an easy win over Niton, beating them by 90 runs. East Cowes posted 150-2, Mark Hartnell smashing 27 not out and Alan Johns making 26 not out. Niton’s chase got off the worst possible start after a wicket first ball, and it didn’t get much better as just two batsmen made double figures, Liam Ringer’s 2-11 helping to bowl Niton out for just 60.
East Cowes will play Newport in the semi-finals after Whitecroft failed to raise a side against the current holders.
