Twenty20 triumph is just what the doctor ordered

The IW Health Associates celebrate their win on the steps of Newclose pavilion.

CRICKETMARK Price led his IW Health Associates team to victory on the finals day of the IW County Press Corporate Twenty20 competition at Newclose on Sunday.

They defeated Wight Agents in a close match, reaching the target with an over to spare.

Wight Agents won the toss and chose to bat, reaching 135-6 thanks to Danny Bishop (48), Lawrence Tolfrey (24) and a late knock of 35 not out from Pete Dickinson. Openers Adam Hose and Joe Raby had departed cheaply.

In reply, IW Health Associates got off to a solid start, with openers Price and John Payso putting on 57 for the first wicket, before Payso was caught and bowled off the bowling of Tolfrey.

Andy White came in at number three and hit a quick 20, while Price eventually departed for 40 off the bowling of Calvin Dickinson. David Pratt’s unbeaten 20 steered them to victory.

In the semi-finals, Wight Agents defeated previous champions Red Funnel in some style, with some tremendous hitting from Raby (61), Tom Morgan (44) and Hose (29) helping the side to 191-5. In reply, Red Funnel reached 149-8, A. Ilyas top-scoring with 42.

The other semi-final saw IW Health Associates defeat Npower. Npower reached 142-5, boosted by an 81-run partnership from Gareth Bricknell and George Nightingale. Health Associates lost Payso early but a fine 49 from Price and 73 not out from Pratt saw them through to the final.

Mike Scott, general manager at Newclose, said: "It has been a tremendous competition and a very enjoyable finals day for the family and colleagues of all the players. I would like to thank all the teams who have participated in the competition as well as the County Press for their continued support."
