Asked to bat first on a slow and low wicket, the top order struggled with the conditions, more used to the hard and fast Twickenham Green, in fact it was only skipper Paul Johnson (38) and Eddie Thorne (39) that helped Twickenham achieve a disappointing 151 all out.

In reply, Twickenham's attack fired on all cylinders and with the reliable Felicien tying the batsmen up at one end and the "express" pace of Bruce Koch the Poly batsmen looked decidedly uncomfortable at the wicket. With all of the Poly runs being accumulated behind the wicket with only the loss of three wickets skipper Paul Johnson was sure it was going to be "one of those days". The change bowler Andrew "Horse" Forster provided no real penetration and Poly were cruising at 100 for 3 needing just 52 from the last 20 overs. It was a last throw of the dice to re-introduce the frightening pace of Koch which proved too hot for the Poly batsmen who capitulated under the barrage raining in on them. Koch finished with figures of 4 for 29 from 18 overs, but it was in fact a brilliant run out that saw the collapse of the last Polytechnic wicket with the score on 141, and earned 30 hard fought points for Twickenham.
