ISLAND charity Independent Arts is inviting older members of the community to join creative sessions as part of their Arts Council funded project, Time & Tide.

Arts and Heritage Cafes will be running at local libraries throughout the whole of 2018.

These sessions will include a box of objects and artefacts from periods of the Island's rich history, which will inspire people to create artworks.

Workshops will also take place in local care homes and Southern Housing Group schemes. The artworks created will be displayed in exhibitions throughout the year.

Art and Heritage Cafes will open at Lord Louis Library, Newport, today (Friday 26) from 10.30am until 12.30pm, travelling to Ryde, Sandown, Freshwater, Cowes and Ventnor libraries over the next few months.

In 2017, the charity was awarded a grant from Arts Council England to fund an Island-wide programme of participatory arts to increase older people's engagement with cultural organisations.

Hannah Griffiths, project manager at Independent Arts, said: "We hope these sessions will be voyages of discovery for participants, learning about our rich history and embarking on a new creative endeavour.

"We are looking for volunteers to support these sessions, so if you have an interest in art or heritage we would love to hear from you."
