SOME of the West Wight's top entertainers joined forces for a sell-out charity cabaret to raise more than £1,000 for the West Wight Sports and Community Centre.

A packed variety programme was performed by 13 well-known locals.

The entertainment was mainly musical with some comedic poetry and a few droll one liners in between performances.

Types of music ranged from The Beatles, The Who, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Green Day, Roy Orbison, The Everly Brothers and Adele among others.

Co-ordinator and Master of Ceremonies, Steve French, said: "The audience especially enjoyed Phil Edwards’ guitar solos, Bertie Everson’s vocals and the zany comedic poetry of Graham Brown which had many in tears of laughter.

"All the other acts put on great sets and received lots of applause from the audience who had a wonderful time.

"We may put on more events in due course to continue to support the centre which offers so much for all age groups with the activities and meeting places for clubs and societies essential for physical and mental health."

Performers were Steve French, Phil Edwards, Alan Springate, Janet Haire, Bertie Everson, Bob Everson, Paul Smith, Vicky Brewer, Trevor Duffield, Paul and Sue Hargreaves (Badman Soul), Graham Brown and Mark Handel.

Sports centre manager, Claire Griffin, gave her thanks to all the performers and Maggie French was presented with a bouquet of flowers for organising the event.

There was also thanks for Mark Handel who set up the PA equipment and monitored the sound.
