Playwright Cheryl Barrett is making her directorial debut on the Island this week.

Since moving here six years she has performed on stage at Trinity Theatre in Cowes and is now directing three of her one-act plays there.

A prolific writer since childhood, Cheryl has written and directed pantomimes, one act plays, murder mysteries and comedy sketches for drama societies, and has more than 85 published scripts with Lazy Bee Scripts and Spotlight Publications.

The three comedy plays all have a living room setting, but will be performed consecutively and each set has to be different — and there is no stage curtain. This means a dedicated back stage team are working on changing the sets in double quick time.

An Evening Of One Act Comedy Plays by Cheryl Barrett is on tonight (8) and tomorrow night (9) at 7.30pm.

Cheryl has also written Jungle Book the Pantomime, which will be making its IW debut at Trinity Theatre later this year.

"I have talented musician and musical director Luke Mulhern on board and our costume lady Liz Santer is already sourcing and making costumes for this spectacular.

"It is not the Disney version and has none of the Disney songs, but sticks faithfully to the original Rudyard Kipling storyline, with the introduction of a panto dame and comedy duo and a wide range of popular upbeat songs."
