A TALENTED fiddle player will be performing a pre-festival warm up concert in the run up to Ventnor Fringe.

Ryan Young, who holds a first class honours degree and a Master's degree from the Conservatoire of Scotland, will be performing alongside acoustic guitarist Jenn Butterworth.

A spokesperson for promotion company Vaguely Sunny, said: "Ryan focuses mainly on Scottish music, bringing new life to old tunes, and his playing is also very influenced by the strong musical tradition of County Clare, Ireland, and you can detect a touch of the style of the masterful Martin Hayes in his performance, particularly in the slow-building tunes.

"His playing is expressive and emotive, inventive and inspiring.

"With Ryan will be Jenn Butterworth, from Scotland — an excellent collaborator who is one of the foremost guitarists in the UK acoustic music scene."

Ryan was nominated for the Horizon Award for best newcomer in this year's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

He was also voted best musician in the folking.com awards.

The Ventnor Fringe Festival kicks off on August 7, but Ryan and Jenn will be playing at St Catherine's Church, Church Street, at 7.30pm on Sunday, August 5.

Tickets are £12 and can be booked by calling 730930 or online at www.vfringe.co.uk.
