THE THRILLING true story of how Winston Churchill changed the course of world history at the precipice of the Second World War is being shown at Bembridge Village Hall on Sunday (21).

Ryde Lions Cinema presents Darkest Hour (PG), starring Gary Oldman as Churchill, at 3pm. Tickets are £10, which includes dissecting the film over afternoon tea afterwards.

Ventnor Arts Club has a live broadcast of The Metropolitan Opera's Samson et Dalila on Tuesday (23) from 5.30pm.

Tony award-winning director Darko Tresnjak gives the biblical epic its first new Met production in 20 years. Blessed with immense physical strength, Hebrew leader Samson is sworn to defend his people and his faith from the Philistines. Though his body is strong, his heart is tender, and when the Philistine Dalila sets out to seduce him, he is powerless to resist.

The club will show The Guardians (15) on Thursday (25) at 7.30pm.

It is an affecting human drama of love, loss, and resilience that unfolds against the backdrop of the First World War.
