June 4, 2001 16:27: With regard to the article on Ms M Crowe and night-owl traffic wardens (News Shopper, May 23).
Thank goodness somebody else is subject to the same treatment. My neighbours and I have been experiencing the same problem for the last two years.
The tickets I have received (six in all) were usually between 3am and 4am on a Friday or Saturday.
This, surely, cannot be a coincidence.
We have the same problem in Pengarth Road and many car owners are forced to park with two or more wheels on the pavement as we do not have drives and there are limited parking spaces.
I have been trying to arrange for footwayparking on Pengarth Road a concession made on various roads surrounding Pengarth Road but to no avail.
I wrote to Bexley Council on this matter but the only response from the council was: "A car owner should make provision to park their car before they purchase their home."
I live opposite a home for the mentally ill and it is not unknown for ambulances and fire engines to be called. It is therefore impractical to park in any other way than with two wheels on the pavement.
Surely the point of parking with two wheels on the pavement is not to cause obstruction to pedestrians. And, in any event, are there any between 3am and 4am? I doubt it.
The only reason Sureway issues these parking early-morning tickets is because it is an easy way for it to meet its parking-ticket targets.
