DANCE sessions for older Islanders, helping them to stay fit and improve memory, have been extended.
Independent Arts has been running the DanceMakers sessions across the Island for the past 18 months supported by a grant from the Headley Trust.
The sessions help older people build strength, balance and co-ordination through gentle dance movement and are designed to help improve memory, through creative choreography.
“As well as the general health benefits, the sessions are fun and sociable too, offering participants the opportunity to work independently, in small groups and as a whole,” said a spokeswoman.
A new DanceMakers group has opened in Newport on Fridays from 1.15pm to 2.45pm at St John’s Church Hall, Drake Road.
There are places available in some of our other groups too.
