The planned multi-screen cinema for Wood Green High Road took a step closer to reality this week.

Operator Cine-UK has agreed a provisional lease on a 3,779 sq metre area in Shopping City.

Proposals for the cinema, called Cineworld The Movies, have already been given outline planning permission by Haringey Council.

Members of the planning committee are expected to decide on a detailed application within the next few weeks.

If the proposals are given the go-ahead a 2,055-seat cinema with 12 screens will be built next to the Shopping City car park.

Work is due to start next month with the cinema planned to be open for business in December 1999.

Shopping City is owned by Capital Regional Properties plc. Managing director Kenneth Ford said: We are pleased to have further developed our existing tenant relationship with Cine-UK. The multiplex cinema will play a key part Wood Green community.

Chief executive officer of Cine-UK, Steve Weiner said: We are excited about our latest London acquisition in Wood Green. Location is integral to the growth of any cinema and we have every confidence in Cineworld The Movies and the regeneration of Shopping City.
