Stones denied in dying moments of key match

WEALDSTONE 2 MOLESEY 2

Wealdstone dropped two valuable points as they drew 2-2 with the draw specialists Molesey who have now drawn ten of their 15 games.

The home side could easily have been two goals to the good in the first 12 minutes when a poor clearance from 'keeper Wastell in the 11th minute reached Mick Swaysland but he took too long to control and shoot before being tackled.

A minute later a Paul Benning header was just about punched clear by Wastell from a Paul McKay free kick.

But after 16 minutes Chris Walton hit a superb 25 yard shot into the net that gave the visiting keeper no chance of saving.

Three minutes later Swaysland was inches away from extending Wealdstone's lead.

At half time Walton had to be replaced by Steve Dell due to a knee injury and the young substitute was soon in action when his good shot was saved by Wastell at the expense of a corner.

In the 53rd minute poor defending allowed Molesey an equaliser. Hutchinson's cross was met by Allen who then found Dyer who had the easy task of scoring from close range.

Brian Jones then clashed with Tilbury who had earlier elbowed the Stones player and was lucky to stay on the pitch.

Unfortunately, this time Jones had to be helped from the pitch suffering from concussion and amnesia. Shaun Fleming came close with a fine 30 yard effort before Wealdstone went ahead again in the 71st minute. A Fleming pass found Swaysland who hit an excellent shot past the visiting keeper. The lead only lasted two minutes as Kember headed Molesey's second.

With 15 minutes remaining the home supporters thought that their team had scored a perfectly good goal.

A Swaysland shot hit a post and Barry Forshaw, making his home debut, hit home the rebound only to see a late flag from the assistant referee.

The goal was disallowed as Forshaw was in an offside position before Swaysland had hit the post.

In the dying moments McKay was denied a penalty when he was tripped in the 18-yard box.

WEALDSTONE: Imber, Dicker (Kent), Fleming, Sterling, Horner, Lamb, Walton (Dell), Jones (Forshaw), Swaysland, McKay, Benning.
