ISLANDERS have the opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day in a display at Newport Minster.
The church is inviting all Islanders to submit a drawing or photo, along with a piece of writing, to sum up what the word 'mum’ means to them — which will then be displayed in the north aisle of the church.
Children from Newport CE Primary and IW High Sheriff Robin Courage helped to launch the celebration by adding the first tributes last Friday.
The idea is the brainchild of Gay Edwards, Jacque Gazzard and Tracy Osborn, who are trustees of The Friends of Newport Minister.
Gay said: "We hope everyone — people from all over the Island, not just Newport — want to celebrate motherhood.& amp;quot;
People will be able to add to the display — cards and pens will be available for those passing — until Mothering Sunday on Sunday, March 26, when there will be a family communion at 11am.
The Minster is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 12.30pm, and there is a cafe serving tea, coffee and cake. There will also be a stall in the Minster for children to buy inexpensive Mother’s Day gifts on Monday, March 20.
