Lions get mauling

Hitchin Town 3 Wembley 0

Conceding three second half goals, bottom-of-the-table Wembley crashed to their seventh successive Ryman League Division One defeat at promotion hopefuls Hitchin Town on Saturday.

The Lions, under new manager Errol Dyer, previously reserve team boss, probably felt aggrieved at the result as they performed admirably during the opening 45 minutes, suggesting that on the field improvements are on the way.

Indeed, Wembley controlled much of the first half and had Danny Norris not missed the chance with a free header and debutant Mark Linton -- one of four players making their first appearance for the Lions -- done better when bursting through, the outcome might well have been different.

The home side looked dangerous on the break, hitting the post and forcing a fine save from Lions' custodian Adrian Creamer.

Wembley suffered a major blow two minutes into the second half when Adam Parker broke through and fired past Creamer to put Hitchin ahead.

Disaster struck in the 71st minute with an own-goal by Norris, and six minutes later, Zema Abbey fired Hitchin's third from close range to wrap up the game

WEMBLEY: Creamer, Griffiths, Forde, Walters, Norris, Lindsay, Bates, McCarthy (Keane 82 mins.), Linton (Callender 76 mins.), Vincent, Lombardo (Levane 63 mins.).

o Lions will be looking to avenge a 4 - 0 drubbing in the opening league match of the season when they take on mid-table Uxbridge at Vale Farm on Saturday.
