MORE than 1,500 plastic ducks, including some in fancy dress, will be let off on the river by the Yar Bridge on Saturday.
They will be part of the annual Easter Duck Race, run by the Yarmouth Carnival Committee.
Each duck costs £1 and tickets can be bought at Holdings, Harwoods and Yarmouth Pharmacy in the town, as well as Yarmouth Sailing Club on the day.
Yarmouth Carnival chairman, Chris Waddington, said: “We usually have a big crowd which comes and supports us and we are hoping for some good weather.
“As well as the little ducks, there will be bigger ducks in fancy dress, which are bought by local businesses for the Corporate Duck Race which gets bigger every year.
“But it’s not just ducks who will be on the water, we will also be having rowing races run by the Dabchicks Rowing Club starting around 3pm. We have three races confirmed: Dabchicks v Yarmouth Gig Rowers,Yarmouth RNLI v Freshwater Independent Lifeboat and Royal Solent Yacht Club v Yarmouth Rowing Club. We are also hoping the Harbour Commissioners take on the River Yar Boatyard. They will be competing for the Black Rock Trophy, the Blue Blade of Yar and DabchicksTrophy.
“I am hoping the rowing will become an annual event. Then the actual duck race, which has cash prizes for the winners, will start at 4pm, as we have to wait on the tide going out.”
Tea and cake available from Yarmouth Sailing Club. The event is one of six organised by the committee throughout the year including the carnival itself, pancake races and fireworks night.
