Mike Parker leading a workshop at last year’s festival.
HARP on Wight 2016 kicked off last night (Thursday) with events taking place at venues across Ryde over the coming days.
Last night saw classical trio Arpatagora perform a special concert at Ryde Methodist Church.
Among the highlights of the four-day festival will be a performance by Beijing-born harpist Jia Peng, a former principal harpist with the China National Symphony.
She is performing alongside Richard Allen, who jointly won this year’s Camac Competition, tomorrow (Saturday) at All Saints’ Church, starting at 4pm.
The Dustbin Corner Ceildh Band, featuring Karen Tweed, Mark Hickman and Ian Watterson, will close the event with a concert at Ryde Methodist Church at 8pm.
There will also be talks and workshops, including one by Mike Parker on Monday in Ryde Methodist Church at 10am. Called Faking it, it is an introduction to playing the harp.
