Grays Athletic 4

Leyton Pennant 0

(Ryman League

division one)

LEYTON PENNANT'S survival hopes took another blow on Tuesday with a 4-0 defeat against promotion seeking Grays Athletic.

A spirited display was not enough for the Lilywhites in a match re-arranged from Saturday because of a waterlogged pitch.

Pennant shook Grays in the opening minute by pressing forward and winning an early corner which Sam Bass headed just wide.

Grays responded by creating a series of chances but Pennant stayed in the game until the half-hour mark.

After that it was down to Pennant keeper Craig Knox to keep the score down but he was helpless to stop Hazle from scoring the opener.

The Lilywhites started the second half positively but the opposition got their second when Dickinson rose unchallenged to head home.

This was followed by a third on 67 minutes when Lilywhites' Woodhurst failed to head back an innocuous high ball. By the time he had turned to control it, Wright had stolen the ball and shot low past the onrushing Knox.

Pennant were given a glimmer of hope when Isaac Cole was awarded a penalty on 86 minutes after being dragged down by the Grays keeper but Neil Tilley's penalty kick was saved.

The game was put beyond reach when Moseley scored the fourth for Grays with a minute left.

PENNANT: Knox, Silk, Hercules, Woodhurst, Bass, Brotherton, Geraghty, Sapiro, Oladeji, Notley and Sapiro. Subs: Cole, Tilley and Marsh.
