Wigan scraped through to the play-off final, thanks to a Darren Sheridan strike in the 61st minute but Lions hitmen Paul Moody and Neil Harris looked dangerous throughout. Alan McCleary said: "We have got to take it one step further next season and go straight up. We have got to go away and regroup and we will come back from this experience a lot stronger."
And Millwall chairman Theo Paphitis defended Millwall fans following the play-off defeat. A handful of fans were involved in skirmishes but Mr Paphitis said: "The whole police approach was confrontational. I thought our fans behaved impeccably in the circumstances."
