MORE than £70,000 in grant aid has been awarded to community groups in Haringey.

Under the latest round of Millennium Festival Awards for All scheme £67,450 has been given to 16 groups ranging from residents associations to schools.

And through the Lloyds TSB Foundation three groups have benefitted from a total of £14,000.

The cash from the festival awards will be seen as a welcome reward for the people of Haringey, who get a low return on the money they spend on the National Lottery.

Among those picking up on the windfall from the Millennium Festival Awards were the Broadwatrer Farm Residents Association, which received £4,300; the Haringey Pensioners Action Group, which was awarded £3,510; the Finsbury Park Players theatre group, which was given £5,000; the Haringey Triathlon Club, which won £4,800; and Haringey schools received £4,766.

The three groups to gain from the Lloyds money are the Haringey Detention Advice Service, which was given £7,500; the Holly Lodge Community Association, which received £2,500 to set up a good neighbours scheme and Network Mesh, which was awarded £4,000.
