LACEMAKERS of the Wight were on hand to share their expertise at Lord Louis Library, Newport.
Members of the group celebrated National Lacemaking Day with a demonstration, showing off an impressive array of tablecloths, place mats, wall hangings, book marks and even fans they had made.
Anyone who fancies trying their hand at the craft is welcome to visit a group meeting to find out more. Meetings are held at Church Close Community Centre, Wootton, on the first Saturday of each month, between 10am and 4pm.
Be warned though — like everything worth learning, it takes time.
Chairman Lin Tyrrell, a lacemaker for more than 20 years, said: “Knitting is a piece of cake by comparison. But there is certainly a sense of achievement in finishing a piece that looks so lovely.
“And once you get the hang of it, and you’re only working with two pairs of bobbins at a time, you’re laughing.”
