LOST AT SEA
COMEDIAN Andrew Maxwell’s hugely improvised gig brought the house down at Quay Arts last night (Wednesday) as part of Bestival’s Lost at Sea festival.
Andrew's Irish accent boomed out from behind the stage, asking for ahhhh's and owwww's before announcing himself to the stage.
There were a few empty seats, but the snug size theatre provided a perfect setting for his conversational style and the experienced Live at the Apollo comic bounced off the frequent audience participation, with gags about grey squirrels, extra fingers and the Island accent.
Several times he looked like he was about to cross the line with racial jokes, before swinging them on their head and surprising the audience with witty, clean punchlines.
The Irish comedian was supported by Aussie Benny Boot.
Benny was hampered by about 20 audience members turning up late, but the confident comic managed to play it to his advantage, repeating material with comic effect.
His experience certainly told and each time he repeated it, the laughter grew louder.
