PLANS to create a hub for the LGBTQ community on the Island are under way.
IW Pride committee member Caroline Diamond has been working with Quay Arts manager Paul Armfield to create a welcoming and positive environment for the community. Caroline, who also founded Wight Lesbians, said being gay on the Island could be an isolating experience.
"It’s just a way of getting people in touch with each other,&am p;quot; said Caroline.
Starting with an LGBTQ and Friends evening of drinks and music today (Friday), the long-term aim is to establish the Quay Arts cafe as a hub and information centre.
Paul added: "We’re not sure what it’s going to look like, so with the first event we’ll give it a try, see how it goes and get people’s feedback for what exactly it is they want from these sort of evenings.
"It’s open to all ages, people’s friends and families. It’s just a central place for them all to meet really."
The LGBTQ and Friends evening is set to be the last Friday of every month at 8pm and entry is free.
