LISTEN
WHAT is described as the 'most in-depth programme — ever’ on the life of the late Island-born Oscar-winning film director Anthony Minghella is currently being broadcast.
It is on John Hannam Meets, IW Radio’s long-running chat show now available worldwide via new weekly podcasts.
John knew Anthony from his early days in Ryde and has put together a special programme to celebrate his life as a Hannam Archive podcast.
The show features highlights from several of John's interviews with him and, in particular, from 1991, 1993, 2001 and 2006.
They feature Anthony’s early Island life, his particular local memories and his eventual emergence as a world-famous movie director.
All his major films are discussed in the programme.
The last time they met for an interview was back in 2006 at the Minghella family home in Ryde.
John has special memories of that particular Saturday morning.
"Anthony invited me down to chat about his latest movie of that time, Breaking and Entering, which was such a different subject for him.
"I still love that movie. He was in sparkling form and I was invited to stay for a pasta lunch with the family before Anthony and his father headed off to Fratton Park to watch their beloved Portsmouth Football Club.
"Sadly, it was the last time I ever saw him, before he tragically died in 2008."
