Wingate in with chance

Wingate and Finchley 4 Kingsbury Town 0

Ryman League Division Three

With all guns blazing Wingate and Finchley continued their hot pursuit of promotion with this convincing 4-0 defeat of near neighbours Kingsbury Town and an aggregate score of 10-1 having crushed them 6-1 earlier in the season.

Andy Myers opened the Blues account in only the third minute -- left sided midfielder Barry Greenstreet sent a long high ball up to leading scorer Ben Strevens near the bye-line. He crossed from the left for Myers to tap it in to an empty net.

Ashley Fisk sent a through ball up to Strevens in the 28th minute who, while trying to skip round assorted defenders, was promptly upended in the area. Tim Becker made no mistake with the penalty kick, sending it straight down the middle.

Kingsbury now launched their best move of the match -- Stuart Freeman sent a cross ball to Niall O'Rourke near the tochline, he knocked it on for captain Randall Amberslet to send a low shot goalwards from ten yards forcing Kalli to get down low and deflect the ball around the post.

Russell Brill, a star performer in last week's 3-2 win at Ford, went down in agony after a heavy tackle and had to be stretchered off having bruised his knee ligaments.

Richard Dee, a full back and new signing from Wembley FC, made his first impression as he instigated the move for Wingate's third goal. He played a ball into Strevens at the near post who turned with his back to goal and flicked it on to Andy Myers in the penalty area. He in turn played it into the path of Richard Baum who finished from close range and through a ruck of players.

With a minute remaining Myers collected the ball on the left wing, drew Lavender out of his goal and unselfishly pulled the ball back for substitute Hadley Silver to side-foot into an empty net as Kingsbury watched.

WINGATE AND FINCHLEY: Kalli, Brill (Dee, 56), Greenstreet, Bolle, Fisk, Shafer, Becker, Hart (Silver, 67), Strevens (Fenton, 72), Myers, Baum.
