BUZZING from the release of their eponymous debut album last Friday, rock quartet The Amazons are now getting excited for next week's IW Festival.
Last year, The Amazons played Jack Daniel's This Feeling stage but after a busy 12 months the band have been promoted to rock the Big Top on Sunday.
The County Press caught up with frontman Matt Thomson to chat all things festival and discover his top tips for surviving the weekend.

Are you looking forward to the festival?
Yeah, we are. We played the Jack Daniel's stage last year and we had a really good time, actually. It has a really good vibe.

What can the audience expect from your set?
I think it'll be a really fun show, to play something a bit bigger than last year. It's been a year so hopefully we're a better band.

How are festivals different to playing gigs?
It's a different thrill and I think that's the best thing about being in a rock and roll band. With festivals you're on the edge as to whether it's going to be the best gig of your life or maybe not so great - there isn't a soundcheck or anything and there's a spontaneity to it.

What are your top three festival tips?
1. Suncream. I've got quite red hair and fair skin so it's important I don't look like a lobster.
2. Bring ear plugs as it's never ever quiet.
3. Try and plan your day because it's so easy to meander around and never see as many acts as you want. It's easy to fall into the trap of just staying on the campsite and chilling with your mates.

Don't forget to see next week's CP for a special 12-page festival supplement, including running orders, a site map,
as well as interviews with Run DMC, Alison Moyet, Kaiser Chiefs and Mel C.
