Callum Bishop starring in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Picture by Jennifer Burton.
STAGE REVIEW YOUNGSTERS from Medina College performed a lively and shortened production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The show, which ran for two nights, featured a mix of Year 7 and 8 students and some pupils from Year 9, at the Island Innovation VI Form Campus, Newport.Despite the show being reduced to around 40 minutes, the story was cleverly told in a vibrant way to keep the packed audience entertained.Throughout, the show was narrated on stage by Hermione Salter, Thomas Worsley and Will Freeman, who all spoke fluently and kept everyone abreast of things being played out.In the re-telling of the Biblical story, Joseph was played by Connor Bolland and Callum Bishop on two separate nights. The story follows Joseph, the favourite son of Jacob, who is able to interpret dreams and is the bearer of the amazing coat, which was particularly impressive with its array of colours brightening up the stage.Joseph’s brothers become jealous and sell him to passing Ishmaelites. He starts a new life in Egypt, before meeting them again several years later.A special mention must go the accompanying band, which featured two Year 9 students, who were faultless and had the school hall rocking, with classic songs, including Any Dream Will Do.The production featured 36 students, with guidance by teachers and, judging by the reaction of the crowd at the end, they all deserve a big pat on the back for their efforts.Headteacher Nathan Thomas said: “The children have done a spectacular job and they can be very proud of their achievements.”Reporter: jamiew@iwcpmail.co.uk
