BUSINESSES and charities from across the south came together at an eco summit, hosted by an Island academic, to tackle climate change.
Organisations, including the Isle of Wight Council, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, Wightlink and Ventnor Botanic Garden, attended the Climate Change and The Solent Summit, held at Portsmouth University last Thursday.
They were joined by university scientists and specialists, to share best practice in addressing climate change at a local level.
Guest speakers included Dr Graham Floater, director of The Climate Centre and former government adviser to the prime minister, and Eco-island chief executive David Green, who outlined his vision for a self-sufficient Island community.
The summit was hosted by the university’s environment facilitator Dr David Hutchinson, who lives at Ryde.
He said: "I am very pleased with the positive feedback we have received from delegates after the event. The University of Portsmouth Environment Network will now be working hard to bring some of the many original actions and ideas generated to fruition.
"Our mission continues to be to contribute to regional sustainable development and, for the Isle of Wight, we will continue to work with David Green and the Eco-island Partnership to deliver any appropriate actions.
"I am delighted we are a partner in this incredibly exciting project."
