FAST food businesses on the Isle of Wight are being invited to sign up to a voluntary code of practice aimed at reducing the amount of litter caused by takeaway food.
The work forms part of the Isle of Wight Council’s Drop It and Cop It campaign, which was launched last year in a drive to create a litter-free Island.
It is also being supported by the Island Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and IW Chamber of Commerce Tourism and Industry.
The initiative follows the success of The Big Tidy Up campaign, which saw many Island groups tidy their areas.
The voluntary code encourages businesses to tackle food-related litter using a range of measures, including organising litter picks around their fast-food premises.
Already signed up to the voluntary code is McDonalds, which carries out regular litter checks in its car parks and daily litter picks in areas prone to McDonald’s litter, particularly Scarrots Lane and Grays Walk, Newport.
