New cars put IW on the eco-road

With the IW Council’s new eco cars are, from left, service manager Jackie Raven, registered manager Yvonne Millmore, Cllr Dawn Cousins, workplace travel project officer Kieran Tarrant and Cllr Edward Giles.

THE IW Council has spent just over £70,000 on a fleet of six, eco-friendly cars.

According to the authority, the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion vehicles will pay for themselves within two years.

They will be used by council workers for various parts of their everyday duties, such as visiting clients. They will also help staff reduce the need to use their own vehicles, while the council will save money through the cars being more fuel efficient.

It is claimed the cars will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 12,000kgs per year.
