New lease of life for beauty spot

AN ISLAND beauty-spot plagued by litter problems is to benefit from a beach clean organised by campaign group Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) on Saturday.

Local SAS representative Joe Caudwell said the clean-up, at Grange Chine, was part of a national 20th anniversary celebrations.

A previous operation at the chine resulted in 100 bags of rubbish being collected from the beach.

"Grange Chine has a particular problem because of its location on the south of the Island, which means it gets a lot of rubbish washing up," said Mr Caudwell.

Any rubbish found that can be linked to a particular producer will be sent back to the company as part of Surfers Against Sewage Return to Sender campaign.

"We want businesses whose products end up as litter to play a more responsible part in dealing with the problem," said Mr Caudwell.

The clean-up will start at 2pm and finish at 4pm. Gloves and bags will be provided.
