PLANS for three wind turbines at Ventnor Golf Club have been approved by Ventnor Town Council.
Recommendations for the 44-metre turbines on Rew Down were made at a meeting of Ventnor Town Council on Monday.
The turbines would enable the club to become one of the first carbon-neutral golf clubs in the world, and they may also supply power to homes in the area.
Cllr Val Taylor, who seconded the proposal, said she was recommending the plan because she had received no complaints about the turbines.
"This issue has been in the public domain for two years and during that time nobody has knocked on my door to comment, so based on what has been presented I feel we should support it," she said.
A screening assessment has been carried out by the local planning authority, which concluded an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) would be not be required at the site.
Meanwhile, the consultation period for the turbine application has been extended by three weeks.
"It is envisaged the earliest the application will be discussed would be at the planning committee meeting on June 23," said Bill Murphy, head of Isle of Wight Council planning services.
