Will’s bid to save the world

ISLAND meditation teacher Will Trend has entered a competition to save the planet and win $25 million.

The Virgin Earth Challenge, launched by entrepreneur Richard Branson and former US vice-president-turned-environmental campaigner Al Gore, is aimed at encouraging people to think of new and innovative ways to reduce greenhouse gases and stabilise global climate levels.

Will has suggested tidal and wave power stations could be built at the end of Island piers to generate free energy.

"Tidal energy is entirely predictable, unlike wind power, and the output of each station would be enough to power a seaside town," said Will, who teaches transcendental meditation from his Adgestone home.

"There has been a resurgence of interest in piers as they are quintessentially English and just waiting for the right kind of tasteful commercial exploitation."
