THE Island was invaded by a host of characters from the realms of fantasy, sci-fi and the gaming world as it hosted its first Comic Con.
Despite the disappointment of the cancellation of an guest appearance by Doctor Who star, Paul McGann, the event at Northwood House, Cowes, over the weekend created plenty of interest — particularly for comic lovers, fantasy and sci-fi fans and those who just enjoy dressing up as their favourite characters.
The two-day event featured appearances by actors and pioneers from the world of print and screen entertainment, as well as artwork showcases and a Cosplay event, when fans of sci-fi and fantasy films and shows dressed up as their favourite characters.
The Island’s Vectis Remnant Squad, which suits up as Star Wars characters and builds its own Star Wars crafts, were among those who took part.
There was also Warhammer workshops, virtual reality gaming and plenty of traders stands.
On the IW Comic Con website, one of its organisers, comic fanatic Benny Belton, thanked fans, volunteers, traders and sponsors for their support in making the event a success.
“There will be an Island Con 2018, “ Mr Belton confidently predicted.
“Suggestions have been taken on board and we now know what the Island wants. We now know how to take the convention to the next level.
“They said it couldn’t be done on the Island but together we did it.”
