Beach huts a moneyspinner

From Vanessa Churchman,
IW Council member for Ashey, Luccombe:
IH THE February budget, the Independent Group put forward a beach hut scheme.

The idea was to create 50 huts, ten of which would be sold outright to fund the programme. Forty would then be built from the proceeds of the sale of the first ten and would be rented to provide an income stream for the council for the foreseeable future.
Depending on the success of the original sale/renting, it was envisaged more huts could be built as time went on.
However, as so often happens when other people try to take on an original idea, neither the scheme nor the subsequent publicity were properly explained to the public, thus creating a sense of outrage.
If only the ruling administration had read our budget notes or contacted us to clarify the details, then everybody would have seen this is a good idea. After all it is no different from a developer (in this case the council) investing a small amount of money to create an ongoing income.
