December 29, 2000 15:07: more than 200 underprivileged children enjoyed a amazing day out at the Dome thanks to a local charity.
Children being cared for by Bromley social services, and other disadvantaged children from the Anerley area, joined together with disabled children from the Kings Health Care Disability Centre at Crystal Palace, and others from Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The trip was organised by Anerley Action 2000, an association of local people and businesses dedicated to helping the underprivileged.
The group arranged transport and food for the children, while the Dome provided all the visitors with free tickets.
One of the main organisers of the day out, Richard Benwell-Lejeune, said: It really was a brilliant day. The people at the Dome looked after us so well, and everyone seemed to have had a lovely time.
Anerley Action 2000 has previously been responsible for organising a childrens party at Betts Park in August, which was one of the largest events ever staged in the area. It intends to make the event even bigger this year. Mr Benwell-Lejeune added: We have big plans for a big party.
