Avenue Road Tramstop - Response to Cllr Tickners statement of 25 October.
The WBRA have been campaigning since February 2001 to improve security, reduce the incidence of vandalism, burglary and trespass on to the live rails by graffiti vandals to restore the quality of life enjoyed by residents before the construc-tion of the tramstop. This campaign to improve an area within the Borough should be fully supported by Bromley Council.
Our efforts have been conducted in the correct manner. The local ward Councillor was contacted in the first instance and has been fully supportive throughout.
Despite countless lobbying letters no improvements were made at the tramstop. Finally a meeting was attended by all par-ties in June and pledges of improvement were made.
Our first contact with Council Leader Michael Tickner was by letter on 26th July requesting a meeting. We had intended to discuss Bromley Council`s commitments, made at the June meeting, which were not being fully honoured. It was also going to be an opportunity to ask for Tramlink to be served with an untidy site notice. We received a reply on the 7th August offering a prospective date for the meeting (18th September), unfortunately we could not make that day and re-sponded by letter on 15th August suggesting alternative dates. The meeting went ahead without our knowledge. We did not hear any more from Cllr Tickner despite further letters being sent. These letters are available on request. WBRA have attended every meeting we've been invited to and replied to every letter. We object to being discredited for not attending a meeting that we had not confirmed in the first place
Last month we were contacted by Bromley Council to become involved in a pilot scheme to help tackle the graffiti in the WBRA area that spans the electoral wards of Clock House, Eden Park, Lawrie Park and Kent House. We agreed to the op-eration, and our aid could save Bromley Council thousands of pounds.
WBRA was formed in 1945 and is strictly non political. We are an association with few resources compared with large or-ganisations that we seek to influence, we do need help at all levels.
Graffiti is a crime punishable by law, the evidence of such crime is on display at Avenue Road tramstop in full view of residents windows causing a loss to visual amenities.
We shall continue with our commitment to help Bromley Council and step up our campaign.
