LETTERS From Graham Attrill, Ryde:I KNOW this may be considered an old news issue by now, but questions still remain regarding the recent top dressing of certain Island roads. The plan was announced with much fanfare by County Hall, and a list of roads were released which included two roads local to myself, Upton Road and Carters Road, both in Ryde. Signs were put up, advising motorists to take care and warning of skid risks. Some potholes were even filled in on Upton Road, ready for the top dressing. Then the rainy season started (has it finished yet?) which stopped them working, followed by the sun coming out and melting the newly-laid surfaces.Work stopped on the top dressing while panic ensued over the melting issue, while all the time Upton Road and Carters Road remained untouched. The signs stayed up for numerous weeks afterwards but now seem to have gone, following a letter from another resident in the CP a couple of weeks ago. Even some of the holes which were filled in Upton Road started to open up again.I read in the CP the IW Council stated it had secured a fixed-price contract and the melting issue would be sorted at no extra cost to the ratepayer. But what about those pot-holed obstacle courses, such as Upton Road, which have had no top dressing put down and still remain pot-holed obstacle courses? Will the contractors be back to finish these roads? Or have we, the council taxpayers, paid for something and got nothing in return?Just another day at County Hall?
